The Gavilan women’s basketball team opened the Monterey Peninsula College Tournament with a dominant win over Mendocino Thursday. 
The Rams topped the Blue Devils 53-32 behind a stellar performance from freshman Greer Watson. Watson led the team with 13 points and also grabbed five rebounds. 
Natalia Armstong also scored in double digits, adding 12 points. 
Gilroy High alum Brianna Barron chipped in with nine points and freshman Brittany Valdez scored six. Valdez also had eight boards and five steals. 
Gavilan took a decisive 29-11 lead into halftime and never looked back. 
The Rams (4-6) will take on Siskiyous in the semifinals of the MPC Tournament at 5 p.m. today.
