Gilroy Mustangs

The Gilroy field hockey team picked up its third straight win, defeating Prospect Tuesday. 
The Mustangs won 2-1 to improve to 11-1-3 overall, 3-1-1 in league play. 
Morgan Rodgers scored both goals for Gilroy and was assisted by Tayler Silacci both times.
The Mustangs outshot Prospect 7-2 in the game. 
Gilroy will play at St. Ignatius at 3:45 p.m. Thursday. 
GIRLS TENNIS
Gilroy tops Monterey
Gilroy’s doubles teams came to play against Monterey. 
The three teams swept Monterey and the No. 2 and No. 4 singles players helped finish the fight, leading the Mustangs to a 5-2 win over Monterey Tuesday on the road.
Savanna Brandon and Mya Esquivel, the No. 1 team, picked up a quick 6-3, 6-4 win for Gilroy. The No. 2 team of Maggie Pickford and Angela Martin had to fight a little harder, edging Monterey 7-6 in their first set, before winning 6-3 in the second. Ada Gailey and Flor Lopez, the No. 3s, continued their stellar play with a 6-4, 6-4 win. 
In singles, No. 2 Nicole Holder easily won her match 6-1, 6-1 and No. 4, Breanna Martin, had similar success with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. 
No. 1 Jessica Martin was handed a 6-2, 6-0 loss by her Monterey counterpart. No. 3 player Carissa Jackson forced a tiebreaker after winning her first set 7-6 and losing the second 6-4, but was bested 10-8 by Monterey. 
Gilroy (2-2) will host Notre Dame at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Cougars edge North Salinas
North Salinas came armed with its large and talented squad, but Christopher wasn’t intimidated. 
The Cougars took care of business and edged North Salinas 4-3 on the road Tuesday. 
No. 1 Jade Bardrick, No. 2 Adena Chen and No. 3 Tiffany Roberts picked up quick wins in singles play for Christopher. Bardick won 6-0, 6-2, while Chen won 6-2, 6-1. Roberts beat her NS opponent 6-4, 6-2. 
The No. 1 doubles team of Liz Levan and Sydney Tran also recorded an easy victory, winning 6-2, 6-0. 
No. 4 singles player Kaitlyn Lombardo won her first set 6-4, but dropped the second 3-6 to force tiebreaker. The Vikings came away with the win at 10-5.
The No. 2 doubles team of Kelly Nantais and Toni Martinez also went to a tiebreaker, but lost 3-6, 6-4, 10-7. The No. 3 team of Nikki Chen and Minna Wu also fell 6-2, 6-3.
Christopher (3-1) will host Gilroy at 4 p.m. Tuesday. 
VOLLEYBALL
Cougars fall to MVC
For the first time all season, Christopher has dropped two in a row. 
After being swept by Live Oak at the Dig Pink Tournament Saturday, the Cougars lost a hard fought game with Monte Vista Christian 3-1 Tuesday at home. 
Christopher lost the first set 26-24, before winning the second 25-21. The Mustangs then proceeded to win the next two sets, both by a narrow 27-25 score.
Stats from this game were not available.
The Cougars (12-6 overall, 3-2 in league) will be back on the court at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to host San Benito. 
Mustangs swept by Alisal
Gilroy fell 3-0 in straight sets to Alisal at home Tuesday. 
The Mustangs lost 17-25, 19-25, 17-25 to the Trojans to fall to 2-7 overall, 1-4 in league play. 
Gilroy will play the Condors at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at North Monterey County High School.
