Gilroy Mustangs

The Christopher girls golf team topped San Benito Monday and it did it without two of its starters.
The Cougars beat the Balers 264-302 at San Juan Oaks Monday despite having a different lineup then they are used to. Kylie Kuwada made her return after a two week hiatus and carded a 50—one of her best rounds to date. Freshmen Jasmine Poso and Madisen Ruelas stepped in to fill the roles of two starters and scored a 74 and 77, respectively. This was the first match and first nine hole round for both.
“This was an important match for us,” Cougars coach Manuel Gallardo said via email. “With two starters missing, it was great to see some of our freshman step up into the lineup. Their contribution was very important and they earned some valuable experience. Also, it was great to see Kylie make a return to the lineup as well. This was one of her best rounds and I think this match was a great boost for the entire team.”
Natalie Gutierrez led the charge, carding a 43 and earning match medalist honors. Alex Granados shot a 46 and Mia Navarro a 51.
The Cougars (6-2) will return to action at 3:30 p.m. Thursday to take on Gilroy at Eagle Ridge.
