YongHong (Vanessa) Li, a 17-year-old senior at GECA (the Dr. TJ Owens Early College Academy) is this week’s “Student of the Week.”
What inspires you?
The people I serve in my community who look up to me or see good in me.
What is your favorite subject in school, and why?
Math, there is a definite answer and way to solve everything, it’s complex yet simple.
If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?
Facilitate a welcoming and encouraging education for each and every individual; one that sparks interest and passion and values community.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
Travel around different countries in Asia: China, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Philippines, etc.
Name one big challenge in your life right now:
Making an impact on the underclassmen at my school before I graduate so that they too can grow to their full potentials.
What is your dream job?
A university president or professor who makes an impact on student’s education.
What are your three favorite things?
Dance, egg tarts, and pandas.
Favorite book:
“The Help” by Kathryn Stockett.
What do you want to do after high school?
Attend a quality private university with good financial aid to pursue my passions and explore new things.
Something that makes you smile:
Laughter.
