California’s total population increased by nearly one percent in 2013 to 38.3 million residents, and most of the growth is happening in the Bay area.
Santa Clara County is the fastest-growing county in the state, and its population increased 1.3 percent to more than 1.8 million residents in 2013, according to figures released April 30 by the California Department of Finance.
The most populous state in the nation, California’s population jumped by 356,000 residents last year and every city in South County saw marked growth.
Morgan Hill’s population increased by 2.9 percent in 2013 and has a current population estimated at 41,197. Last year, Gilroy’s population increased by 1.9 percent and has a population of approximately 52,413 residents.
San Jose, California’s third largest city led by Los Angeles and San Diego, surpassed one million residents in 2013 with the addition of 17,000 people.
Many rural areas are continuing to experience population declines, while 439 of 482 California cities saw population increases. Overall, California remains the most populous state in the nation and saw the addition of 356,00 residents in 2013, the study showed.
