County needs poll workers
SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters still needs more than 700 poll workers for the Nov. 5 election. To be a poll worker, you must be a U.S. citizen, a registered voter in Santa Clara County and at least 18 years of age. Poll workers are paid a stipend of $85 to $115 for working election day. Hours are from approximately 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Experience is not necessary.
Training is provided at sites throughout the county. Anyone interested in serving as a poll worker or who would like more information should visit the Registrar of Voters’ Web Site at www.sccvote.org or call 299-POLL (299-7655).
Garlic Festival Day
GILROY – Garlic Festival Day at Bonfante Gardens Family Theme Park is Saturday, Oct. 19. Take a spin in a giant garlic bulb, learn from a true garlic chef and enjoy fabulous garlic fries. GILROY – The Community Emergency Preparedness Fair will be held Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the LDS Church, 7999 Miller St. in Gilroy. Classes will begin at 10 a.m. and start about every 25 minutes. Topics include food and water storage, document organization, earthquake preparedness, 72 hour kits, financial preparation, and more. Road closure
