A man entered a woman’s central Gilroy home through a pet window, attacked her in her bedroom and tried to rape her early this morning.
The man first attacked the 30-year-old woman about 4 a.m. in her bedroom on the 100 Block of West Fifth Street, but the struggle eventually moved into the kitchen, where the woman armed herself with kitchen knives, police said. The scuffle then moved outside as the woman ran, trying to find a phone to call police. As the man ran after her, pursuing her near the corner of Fifth and Eigleberry streets, he “told her in no uncertain terms what his desires/intentions were,” according to a police press release.
The woman found a phone and called police, but was attacked again before she could talk with a 911 operator, police said. He then dragged her into some nearby shrubs, where police found them “second later,” according to the press release. Police gave chase, but the man managed to evade them.
The man is a fair-skinned Hispanic, 5-feet, 9-inches and 180 pounds, police said. He is in his late 20s, is clean-shaven, and has medium-length dark brown or black hair. The man appeared to be bleeding when police arrived and the woman believes she stabbed him with one of the kitchen knives, police said.
The woman later said she has met the man before, knowing him only by a nickname, and he has since made repeated attempts to contact her against her will. He has previously been persuaded to stay away by her family members but was not reported to the police. Police did not release the man’s name or nickname.
