“What is the correct pronunciation? Is it Princevale or Prince Valley.”

Dear Wondering, Red Phone contacted Princevalle Pet Hospital to get an answer. According to Rebecca, a receptionist at the pet hospital, the correct pronunciation is “Prince Valley.”

So now next time you bring your pet to the hospital for his check-up, he won’t bark at you for mispronouncing the name.

Where’s the street signs?

“Dear Red Phone, I was wondering what’s going on with the city’s street department? I called about three months ago about a street sign at the north corner of Forest (Street) and Walnut (Lane) where the sign has been missing. Can you please contact Carla Ruigh and see what explanation she has?”

Dear Frustrated, Red Phone contacted Carla Ruigh, operations services manager, who said the sign was recently replaced.

However, Red Phone understands it gets confusing and sometimes dangerous when street signs are missing.

So, if you still do not see the sign or have an incorrect intersection, let Red Phone know.

Park as many cars as you like

“Dear Red Phone: Is there a limit to the amount of cars one household can have. On Mantelli between Hirasaki and Santa Teresa there are approximately five to six cars parked on the street belonging to the same house, along with two in said houses driveway and one in the garage, IN ADDITION to one constantly being parked into the entrance to Hirasaki Court! It is an eyesore as they seem to never move. Please enlighten me on this.”

Dear Can’t Find a Place to Park, Red Phone used to live near people who had numerous cars and understands you might be frustrated. The excessive vehicles can take up much needed parking spaces if they are parked on the street.

Scott Baron, Gilroy’s code enforcement officer, confirmed, however, that there is no limit as to the number of vehicles a person can own.

On a similar matter, though, a vehicle cannot be parked along the street for more than 72 hours, according to Gilroy’s municipal code. If a vehicle has been parked along the street for more than 72 hours, it can then be considered abandoned. The police can then remove the vehicle from the street.

Red Phone hopes this answers your question, reader.

Unfortunately, you have to put up with the excess of car’s on someone’s property but nobody is permitted to have a car parked on public property, along the street, for more than three days.

Garbage trucks arrive too early

“Hi Red Phone, got a question for you. I thought South Valley disposal was supposed to start their morning route at 7 a.m. and it seems that they are starting earlier as we start the fall season. This week we had a garbage truck #1312 picking up trash at 6:20 a.m. Is this legal? Thanks.”

Dear Morning Person, It could be that your area was toward the end of the route for quite some time and now it has changed. According to Phil Couchee, from South Valley Disposal & Recycling, the company is allowed to begin collections at 6 a.m. in residential areas.

He also added the starting points of the route get changed around so the same area is not always collected first.

If you have any more concerns, you may call the South Valley Disposal & Recycling’s customer service at 842-3358
