Glen View Elementary School was locked down this afternoon while police officers subdued a man nearby waving a length of pipe.

Angel Aguero, 36, of Gilroy was arrested at 1 p.m. today on t he 7200 block of Hanna Street in suspicion of domestic violence, kidnapping – both felonies – and brandishing a weapon, a misdemeanor.

About 12:50 p.m., a community service officer passing through the neighborhood called the police department to report a domestic dispute in progress. When a sergeant arrived on scene, Aguero emerged from the house and confronted him swinging a pipe, Sgt. Jim Gillio said. The responding sergeant called for backup and several additional officers arrived on scene.

As a precautionary measure, Glen View called a code red and was put on lock down for about 15 minutes, Principal Scott Otteson said. The arrestee never came onto campus, but police wanted to play it safe considering the vicinity of the disturbance to the school, Gillio said.

“The school was locked down just in case the guy ran,” Gillio said.

Police used non-lethal force to subdue the man, including an extended range impact device that propels rubber projectiles at a high velocity and an electronic stun gun.

Aguero was taken into police custody and the school opened its doors shortly thereafter.
