I have a complaint about the city. I called the city recently
about a water valve cover. They came by and tested the fire
hydrant, took the covers off to test and when they put it back on
every time a car goes by it goes ‘clank clank, clank clank, clank
clank.’
They were repaired, but continue to make noise
“I have a complaint about the city. I called the city recently about a water valve cover. They came by and tested the fire hydrant, took the covers off to test and when they put it back on every time a car goes by it goes ‘clank clank, clank clank, clank clank.’ So I called the city and left a message. Nothing happened for four days. Called back and talked to a young lady who said ‘Dan’s in charge would you like to talk to him.’ I said ‘please.’ Got a recording, but you can’t leave a message. So that was the end of that. The thing is still clanking.”
Dear Clanked,
Red Phone contacted Operations Services Manager Carla Ruigh, who said city staff received a complaint regarding a valve cover on Mesa Road. “The staff went out and replaced the valve cover,” she said. “If it is this location, and there is still a problem, please call Dan at 846-0271. She said anyone with complaints should call 846-0271. Red Phone contacted the caller who said, yes city staff did come out and replaced the cover, but it still clanks. So Carla, you may have already received another call from the Mesa Road residents.
Obstruction on park trail
“Red Phone, I’m a very frequent walker in the hills at Christmas Hill Park. There’s a tree that fell across the main path and another tree that looks like it’s going to fall and you kind of have to duck under it and it’s kind of a hazard. Thank you.”
Dear Obstructed,
Red Phone again contacted Ruigh, who said staff checked the main park area and all the formal pathways and did not find any downed trees crossing those paths.
So good caller, it appears the tree has already been moved. Anyone with information about obstructions along the paths should call 846-0444 and provide details on the location so staff can check out the situation.
What’s up with golf course?
“Hi, I thought I read in the first article about this that (golf) tournaments are banned at the Fry place. Why are we taking a poll and officials saying it would be great for the city … it is a non-issue since it is not allowed.”
And,
“The Dispatch recently had an article about the AIM golf course being used for a PGA tournament, but there has been no mention of what I believe to be an important fact. It is my understanding that when the Morgan Hill City Council retroactively approved the golf course, it limited the number of rounds that could be played each day and specifically prohibited tournaments.”
Dear Teed-offs,
You are both correct, sort of. Golf tournaments are not specifically banned, and the course would in fact have to submit a detailed plan for accommodating such an event with its enormous crowds and traffic at the 192-acre site. The course is mainly nonurban and unlikely to provide parking on site, which could spill over into environmentally sensitive land.
“An environmental impact report still has to be done, so there’s still a lot to be finished,” said Morgan Hill Mayor Steve Tate in a recent story. The immense 7,952-yard course has been tangled in controversy since its expansion from a nine-hole course in the early decade, a process done without proper permission. Fry’s company currently has specialists working to bring the course “closer in harmony with the environment,” spokesman Manuel Valerio said.
“It’s our intention to meet the requirements of any environmental agencies,” he said. Current permits allow play between April and September and no more than 36 rounds a day.
