Gilroy’s varsity girls basketball team was able to get back on track last week by playing twice as good as its opponent.
Well, maybe not twice, but the score would indicate so.
The Mustangs defeated the Alvarez Eagles 52-26 in Salinas Friday. The victory gave the visitors their first win in the Tri-County Athetic League this season while also snapping a six-game losing streak.
Gilroy is now 6-10 overall, 1-3 in the TCAL. Alvarez lost its fifth league contest in as many games, and now has a 6-13 record.
Angela Silveira led the Mustangs with a game-high 15 points. Breanna Mah and Lindsey Foster each pitched in seven for Gilroy while Vanessa Wilkins and Jennifer Rose both had six. Chelsea Hill had four and Kristy Pineda had three to round out all GHS scorers.
Amanda Musones led Alvarez with nine points.
The Mustangs will try to add another tally to the win column this Wednesday when Gilroy hosts Salinas. Both teams are tied for fifth place in the TCAL.
The contest will tip off at 7 p.m.
