Gilroy High’s varsity girls basketball team coasted to victory in its second-straight Tri-County Athletic League contest Wednesday, beating the Salinas Cowboys 54-37. Gilroy defeated Alvarez 52-26 last Friday.

Taking a 24-13 advantage into halftime, the Mustangs kept up the tempo on offense and the pressure on defense to increase their lead in the second half.

Angela Silveira led Gilroy with 14 points. Lindsey Foster and Vanessa Wilkins were the other Mustangs to reach double figures, with 10 and 11 points, respectively. Breanna Mah had seven points, Chelsea Hill had six, Kristy Pineda had three, Geralyn Moon had two and Stephanie Solorio had one to round out all scorers for Gilroy.

With the victory, the Mustangs improved to 7-10 overall, 2-3 in the TCAL. Salinas dropped to 8-11 (1-4 TCAL).

Gilroy’s next game will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Alisal.
