Vickroy after the fall.

Dear Editor,
I am glad to hear that Mrs. Vickroy was not badly hurt after her
mishap on July 25 on her way to the Gilroy Garlic Festival.
We were holding a voter’s registration drive nearby and we were
there when she fell. One of our group members, Shirley Trevino, is
that lady that left Mrs. Vickroy her name and phone number.
Mrs. Vickroy was bleeding quite profusely and we were all
concerned. People who lived at the accident site assisted with
water and paper towels. Thank you to the man that comforted Mrs.
Vickroy. We wish her a speedy recovery.

Easy as asking school secretary? No excuse not to track dropout rate

Dear Editor,

For years, seeing absurdly low dropout rates in school districts where we knew the rate was higher (7 percent in East Side Union High School District, for example) led many to ask for a more accurate calculation.

Because the rates were so low, there was never any motivation for a district to follow up on the student situations presented by letter writer Roger Anderson. Now that the rates are higher, the districts will find a way to track those who transfer, obtain a GED, etc.

And if it’s just as easy as asking the district secretary, then the constant claim “we don’t have the resources” won’t be heard in this case.

Maintenance at city-owned Gilroy Gardens on downward slide?

Dear Editor,

While my family is enjoying Gilroy Gardens this year with our premium passes, is it just me, or are others noticing what appears to be a downward slide in the overall maintenance of the park from its “glory days”?

There seems to be weeds now appearing in areas where there have not been weeds, chipped concrete steps in need of repair and plants looking tweaked.

Even the plastic oranges and lemons in the crates on the shipping dock next to where the train goes by are faded and broken. This raises a curious question: what does the city spend by way of a park maintenance budget verses the maintenance budget when the park was not owned by the city?

Does an apparent downward slide in keeping up the maintenance on these “little things” indicate bigger maintenance problems are coming on park rides, creating problems that might effect the safety of riders? While I support Gilroy Gardens and wish for its success, I’m getting concerned about what I think I’m starting to see.

Democrats for the working people – right, $4 gallon and no help at all

Dear Editor,

Nancy Pelosi wants to save the world. Barack Obama wants us to inflate our tires. It is nice to have lofty goals.

However, we working folks just want to be able to drive to work. Have you people been in Washington too long? Supposedly the Democrats are the party of the people. Do they think that $4 a gallon gas is good for us working people?
