John Pershing Skinner was born June 3, 1919 in Nampa, Idaho. He died after suffering with Parkinson’s disease on July 16, 2008, surrounded by his family. John is survived by his wife, Helen and their two children, Margaret of Oakland and John Jr. of Palo Alto. He was the proud grandfather of three grandchildren: Kailyn McCord, Nathaniel Skinner and John McCord.
John met Helen during their military service in W.W.II, after which they were married in Dec, 1945. During his thirteen years in the Army he also served in the Korean war. He graduated from San Jose
State College, lived in San Jose and worked for Lockheed Aircraft for 25 years. John retired in 1982 and moved with Helen to Ridgemark where they have lived for the last 25 years. John was an avid golfer, loved to play bridge and lunch with his buddies. He enjoyed playing tennis and being in nature. John loved music and reading, particularly about politics, international relations and foreign
cultures. John was a committed member of the The First Congregational church of SJ and The Presbyterian Church in Hollister.
A memorial service will be held to honor John at the Presbyterian Church in approximately one month. Donations are preferred to the Parkinson’s Foundation in Mr. Skinner’s memory c/o Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home, 363 7th St. Hollister, CA 95023
