Dear Editor, As the Gilroy Center for the Arts flourishes on its diverse art and multicultural activities, it is now potentially grounded by the restrictions of zoning as a retail center from the old Salvation Army site.

Our Center has bootstrapped its way to success and with the support of the Gilroy Dispatch as an advocate for the City Council to exempt the site from the zoning in the area even though the designation for the area in the General Plan is for art and cultural use as the highest and best use it seems like a contradiction that needs to be formally resolved.

Please join us in obtaining Council consent to exempt the Gilroy Art Alliance Center for the Arts from the retail zoning by obtaining a variance for the specific use of this building.
