Marian was the youngest of six children born to Mariano and Ceferina Sanchez who immigrated from Spain via Hawaii and settled in Hollister around 1913.
The community of Spaniards who had immigrated and settled in Hollister in those days was significant enough that they formed their own Beneficial Union (Union Benfica Espanola De Hollister, Inc.) Marian’s parents were founding members.
Marian attended Sacred Heart School in Hollister (Class of ’45) and graduated from San Benito High in 1949. Some of her fondest memories were those spent with her beautiful sisters, Ramona Warren, Julia Cronin, and Ann Porteur, and the many cousins in the Sanchez family in Hollister.
She married the love of her life Donald Hagins on May 16, 1953. They shared 58 years of marriage and were rarely apart from each other.
She was always active either helping or supporting the many activities her three sons were involved in and was always willing to offer her help and support to those in need. Marian had a strong faith and was a constant encouragement to everyone around her, helping people to trust in God and to seek Him personally in their lives.
Marian worked at Shultze’s Department Store in Hollister during the 70’s but was happiest being a homemaker for her husband and sons who adored her. She had many fond memories of camping trips with her best friend and sister Ann Porteur and their families to Mono Hot Springs during the 60’s and early 70’s.
She was a gift from God to her family and the myriad of friends she made in the community over the years. She loved to sing and could be heard whistling while doing even the most mundane tasks. Later in life, Marian taught herself to draw and paint. Many of her drawings and paintings were given as gifts to those she loved and cherished.
Marian is survived by her husband Donald, sons Patrick Hagins (Mary), Casey Hagins (Paula) of Hollister and Michael Hagins (Marilee) of Turlock, grandchildren Sarah Smith, Jeffrey Hagins, Joseph Hagins, DJ Parker, Aaron Miller and great-grandchildren James Hagins, Trevor Smith and Mikayla Smith. She is also survived by her brother, Joe Miguel (Carmen) of Hollister and many nieces and nephews who loved her as well.
Private graveside services will be held on Monday June 6, 2011, at Calvary Cemetery in Hollister. In lieu of flowers
