Emily Briese and Daniel Carr are engaged to be married.
Emily, daughter of John and JoAnn Briese of Morgan Hill, is a graduate of Live Oak High School and Chico University. She received a teaching credential and master’s degree from San Jose State University. She is currently a teacher in the Oak Grove School District.
Daniel, son of Jim and Joyce Carr of Morgan Hill, is a graduate of Live Oak High School and attended Gavilan College. He received an electrician certificate and is employed at Lighthouse Electric.
Dan chose time between services at Advent Lutheran Church to ask Emily to marry him. The wedding will take place at the church later in the year.

Luna Medina Robledo
Luna Medina Robledo was born Feb. 21, 2011 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Joana Robledo and Jonathan Medina of Hollister. She weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces.

Michaela Pereira
Michaela Pereira, of Gilroy, was named to the Dean’s List at Azusa Pacific University. APU students qualified for the fall semester 2010 academic standing by keeping a 3.5 or better grade point average.
She is a communications studies major.
Niko Katsuyoshi
Niko Katsuyoshi, an 8-year-old from Morgan Hill who attends Nordstrom Elementary School, took first place in the 63rd Annual San Jose Buddhist Judo Club and 19th Sensei Memorial Judo Tournament. The tournament was held at the SJSU Event Center on Feb. 20. Niko won all four of his matches in the Jr. Male, White-Orange Belt category.

Kristin Costa, of Gilroy, was named to the Dean’s List at Azusa Pacific University. APU students qualified for the fall semester 2010 academic standing by keeping a 3.5 or better grade point average.
She is a global studies major.
Diane Stone
Diane Stone is Gavilan College’s Employee of the Month for February 2011. She is a senior department assistant in the Kinesiology Department and has been with the district since September 2007.
Sometimes when her work day is done, Diane can be found filling in at the Admissions and Records Office, taking minutes for Faculty Senate or volunteering for various committees. She often attends Gavilan College Board meetings.
Diane has become a go-to person for assistance with MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint. She, along with Grace Cardinalli, presented a break out workshop for Staff Development Day (fall 2010) entitled “Fix a Form” that helped staff in the development of forms and documents in Excel and Word.
Ian Liardon
Ian Liardon, of Morgan Hill, was named to the Dean’s List at Azusa Pacific University. APU students qualified for the fall semester 2010 academic standing by keeping a 3.5 or better grade point average.
Michele Callaway
By compiling a team grade-point-average of 3.22, the Whittier College women’s cross country team earned Division III All-Academic status from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Gilroy native junior Michele Callaway, a biology and psychology double major, received both team and individual All-Academic honors.
Callaway, reigning Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Individual Champion, crossed the finish line first for the Poets at Nationals and 14th overall out of the 279 runners who competed this year. She also received the individual awards for the season in All-American, All West-Region and All-SCIAC.

Marisa Struzik, of Morgan Hill, was placed on the Dean’s List for the 2010 fall semester at California State University Fullerton. Undergraduate students who take 12 units of graded course work and who earn a 3.5 or higher grade point average are named to the Dean’s List.
She is the daughter of Edward and Marsha Struzik of Morgan Hill.

Eric Matsumoto, of Morgan Hill, was named to the Dean’s List at Azusa Pacific University. APU students qualified for the fall semester 2010 academic standing by keeping a 3.5 or better grade point average.
He is a biochemistry major.
