The Gilroy Little League American 10-year-old baseball All-Stars bested their buddies, the GLL National All-Stars 7-4 on Saturday to secure a spot in the District 59 championship game.
Despite the loss, the Nationals were still alive in the double-elimination tournament and made sure of a rematch with their neighbors, winning Sunday to move into the title game as well.
As for Saturday’s first all-Gilroy matchup,”it was a great ball game as kids from both teams played great,” American manager Mike Katchel said.
It was the Nationals that began with a bang, posting three runs in the first innings and clasped to a 4-2 advantage after the top half of the fourth.
However, Reid Francis led off the American bottom of the fourth with a double and scored after the ensuing batter, Brendan LeBlanc, followed with a triple. The American League team collected five runs in the inning and held onto the 7-4 lead the rest of the way.
Alex Ruiz went 3-for-3 for the Americans while Marshall Silva and Garret Santos went 2-for-3 for the Nationals.
