Gilroy police arrested Michael Velasquez, 18, Gilroy’s Most
Wanted, Saturday on suspicion of assault and robbery.
The Gilroy Police Department arrested a Most Wanted suspect Saturday, less than one month after police said he stabbed and robbed a man in the 7100 block of Church Street.

Michael Velasquez, 18, was arrested at 10:50 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Juniper Drive in Gilroy, police said.

Velasquez had remained at large since police tabbed him as a suspect in the March 23 incident. A second, unknown male also is wanted, according to the GPD.

The second suspect is described as a light-skinned Hispanic male between 18 and 19 years old and between 5 feet and 5 feet 9 inches tall. He has a stocky build, short hair and no facial hair, according to police.

Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at 1:35 a.m. March 23. When they arrived, officers discovered one victim suffering from multiple stab wounds and two others with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

During an investigation, police learned two males, one later determined to be Velasquez, approached several individuals in a carport area on Church Street.

Police said Velasquez and the second suspect demanded money and other items from the individuals. The two suspects then attacked the men, taking some personal items in the process, according to the GPD.

GPD Officer Amanda Stanford said the stab-wound victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The other victims’ conditions are not currently known.

The incident is being investigated as a gang related crime, according to the GPD.

Anyone with more information about the incident may call police at 846-0350 or leave an anonymous tip at 1-800-782-7463.
