Heading into Tuesday night’s Monterey Bay League contest against host Seaside, the Cougars lone loss in league (3-1) was a 4-2 defeat to Monterey – a game the Cougars surrendered the lead in the sixth.
Holding a 2-1 advantage, the inning doomed CHS once again as the Spartans plated three runs to clip the Cougars 4-2 in Seaside.
“I don’t understand, it’s a jinx,” Nabzeska said. “We were playing well, had a lead and in the sixth we fell apart.”
Three of the Spartans first four batters in the fateful frame reached to load the bases with one out and they maximized their opportunity with the trio of tallies.
“Not to take anything away from Monterey or Seaside but we should have won those games,” Nabzeska said. “We should be undefeated in league. But, hey, we just have to do better.”
The Spartans improve to 4-0 in the MBL while the Cougars drop to 3-2.
The Cougars pushed their first run across in the opening inning on a Kristen Dennis RBI fielder’s choice. Back-to-back doubles in the top of the sixth by Mariah Martinez and Aly Olvera, the latter resulting in the second run.
