Visalia – College of the Sequoias got two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday and then held off another Gavilan rally to escape with an 8-7 win.

The Giants scored twice with two out in the eighth, the second on a wild pitch, to break a 6-6 tie. The Rams scored a run in the ninth and runners at first and second before COS relief pitcher Beau Whitlock got a strikeout to end the game.

The Giants scored four runs in the fifth inning keyed by Steven Hernandez’s two-run double before Gavilan (2-2) battled back to tie the game in the top of the eighth.
