The way Samantha Nydam has been playing makes Gavilan fans forget she’s a rookie.
The freshman outside hitter was instrumental in Gavilan’s perfect run at West Valley Wednesday. The Rams went 6-0 on the day, beating Monterey Peninsula College 25-20, 25-12, 25-17 in their first match and Los Medanos 25-22, 23-23, 23-14 in their second.
Nydam had 11 kills in each match for the Rams to finish with 22 for the day. She also had two digs and two block assists against Los Medanos.
Savanna Hartman was also key for Gavilan, finishing with 14 kills, 17 digs, an ace and a solo block through two games. Lissette Pedraza racked up three aces against Los Medanos, while Daisy Valladares and Raelynn Heredia each had two. Heredia and Cheyanna Dela Merced, the freshman out of Christopher, each had two aces against MPC.
Gavilan (2-2) will be back in action at the Delta College Classic Sept. 12-13 in Stockton.
