Eat a pie for Grad Night
Fundraiser for 2008 Sober Grad Night. Pies range in price from $13 to $14 (apple, pumpkin and olallieberry). Pies will be sold until Oct. 26.

The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce invites the community to submit nominations for leading businesses and citizens to be recognized for the 2007 Educator of the Year, Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Small Business of the Year and Large Business of the Year. It takes a little time to make a nomination, but the recognition that is so richly deserved lasts forever as part of Gilroy’s legacy. The Citizen and Business award recipients will be honored at a special, gala event Saturday, Feb. 9, at the San Juan Oaks Golf Club.
Historias de Mi Madre
Community Solutions, the largest nonprofit human services agency in southern Santa Clara County, announced that it will host its first play on intimate partner abuse during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Historias de Mi Madre is a bilingual play that explores domestic violence over the course of three generations and evolving cultural contexts. The event will take place at 6pm Friday, at the Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. The event is free and open to the public. Due to mature content, viewer discretion is advised.

Fund-raiser for Gavilan sports
The Gavilan College baseball and softball 2007 weekend fund-raiser will be held Friday and Saturday.
A 4-man handicap scramble golf tournament will be held Friday, at Gilroy Golf Course, 2695 Hecker Pass Highway. $85 donation includes green fees, refreshments, dinner, golf cart and tee prize. Registration at 11am, shotgun start at noon and dinner at 5pm. Additional dinner tickets are $20 each.
An alumni baseball game will be held at noon Saturday, at the Gavilan baseball field. $25 donation ($15 if also playing in golf tournament).

Halloween Poker Ride
Halloween Poker Ride Saturday, at the Harvey Bear Ranch, San Martin. Lunch and prizes. Registration at 8am, costume judging at 9am, ride out at 10am, lunch and one poker hand. Cost is $25 for adults ($20 for San Martin Horsemen Association members) and $20 for children younger than 12.

Halloween Hold ’em Tourney
Registration is being accepted for the third annual Halloween Hold ’em Tournament scheduled for 10am Saturday, at the Gilroy Senior Center. The 15th in a series of popular No Limit Texas Hold ’em events staged by the Gilroy Community Services Department, the Halloween Hold ’em accepts four-person teams to play. Team members play at different tables. The recreational event concludes with a final table. Proceeds benefit City of Gilroy senior, teen and youth programs. The team entry fee is $60.

The Live Oak High School class of 1967 will be having its 40-year reunion Saturday at the Grange Hall in Morgan Hill. All alumni from the class are invited to gather and catch up on old times and new developments.

Robot fighting in costumes
The 2007 Halloween Robot Terror and Bot Costume Contest takes place Saturday Oct. 27, at Gilroy Hobby, 6901 Monterey Road. The fighting weight classes are 150-gram flea weights, 1-pound ant weights and 3-pound beetle weights .
Weigh-in starts at 10am and fighting begins at noon.
After one round of bot fighting in all weight classes there will be a costume contest for the fighting robots. That’s right-fighting robots in costume!
The Harvest, Holiday Festival
Just in time for the Holidays, San Juan Bautista says good-bye to the summer and hello to the season of festivities as California Artists once again provides a wonderful array of arts and crafts vendors and the city teams up with folks from around the County to celebrate the Harvest Saturday and Sunday. It will take place on Third Street in San Juan.

Halloween Spooktacular
Bring your costumed children trick-or-treating at Gilroy Premium Outlet’s 7th annual Halloween Spooktacular from 4 to 6pm Wednesday, Oct. 31. Free glow necklaces will be distributed to the first 1,000 children who stop by the Information Center located in Building C. Free trick-or-treat bags will also be provided to the first 1,000 children.

Harvest Dinner and Auction
The Exchange Club of Gilroy is having their annual Harvest Dinner/Auction from 6 to 10pm Friday, Nov. 2, at the I.F.D.E.S. Hall, Forest and Old Gilroy streets. The roasted chicken dinner, dessert and coffee is $25 per person. A live auction will be held after dinner.
