Three people were arrested early Saturday morning for fighting
in downtown Gilroy. Hosbel Flores Hernandez, 26, of Visalia, Emilio
Estrada Gonzallez, 33, of Salinas, and Edward Michael Johnson, 29,
of the 8100 block of Kern Avenue were all arrested at 2:04 a.m.
Late night fight in downtown

Three people were arrested early Saturday morning for fighting in downtown Gilroy. Hosbel Flores Hernandez, 26, of Visalia, Emilio Estrada Gonzallez, 33, of Salinas, and Edward Michael Johnson, 29, of the 8100 block of Kern Avenue were all arrested at 2:04 a.m. for fighting in public outside the Bike Center, 7441 Monterey St. Hernandez was also charged with resisting arrest.

Stolen Cadillacs recovered

Gilroy police recovered two stolen vehicles during the weekend that appear to have been stolen by the same suspects, police said. Police first found a Cadillac sport utility vehicle, reported stolen out of Santa Cruz, near the intersection of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Club Drive, 3:15 a.m. Friday. The vehicle was not missing any parts, but did contain the license plate of a 2002 Cadillac Escalade that had been reported stolen in Watsonville. Police then found this vehicle on Obata Way with its interior panels, seats and dashboard components stripped off, 9:04 a.m. Monday.

Trouble on Church Street

At 1:32 p.m. Friday, a gray van pulled up to an apartment complex at 8170 Church St. and the front passenger pointed a handgun out the window. Then, five males unloaded from the vehicle carrying shovels and pipes. They went back into the complex and broke an apartment’s window, loaded back into the car and were last seen heading northbound on Church Street. In 2004, the complex was the residence of an 18-year-old alleged Sureño gang member who fired a gun four times at an alleged Norteño member and attempted to kill him in 2003, police said.

Details emerge on assault

A man was stabbed at least three times in his kitchen on the 8100 block of Forest Street, 3:19 a.m. Saturday. When police arrived, they found the victim with injuries to his face, back of neck and arm. Alfredo Manuel Florez, 29, of the 7300 block of Church Street, was arrested 2:25 p.m. Saturday in connection with the crime at his residence for assault with a deadly weapon and on a warrant for being under the influence of a controlled substance. The victim, who knew Florez, said he did not know why Florez attacked him, police said.

Auto burglary case revived

Two Salinas residents were arrested Monday while they were being held at the Monterey County Sheriff’s Correction Facility in connection with a string of auto burglaries on the 8400 block of Poppyfield Court between 2:30 and 4:40 a.m. July 22. Eleazar Puente, 27, and Patricia Magana Garcia, 22, were both being held at the facility for other crimes when Gilroy police arrested them on warrants for two counts of burglary and buying or receiving stolen property.

Chairs thrown in bar fight

Three people were injured and two people arrested after a fight broke out at the Longhouse Restaurant, 8195 Monterey St., at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday. A “large fight” broke out at the bar, with one person using a chair to hit another person, police said. When both these people were on the ground, a third person came in and began punching both of them. The fight then moved outside the bar where eventually police stopped it. Cameron Bautista, 30, of Morgan Hill and Benjamin Frank Casarez, 30, of Hollister were arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, fighting in public and resisting arrest.
