The Gilroy girls golf team finished its last round of the season, taking seventh place at the Tri-County Athletic League golf finals at Salinas Golf & Country Club Monday.
The Mustangs shot a combined score of 473, showing a clear improvement from the beginning of the year.
“We ended the season with great play by our players,” GHS Coach Eric Kuwada said. “They have come such a long way in two months. I was commenting to Cassidy (Daley) that I wish that I would have taken video of the first days of practice and compare them to now. They have come so far.”
Katie Kishimura led Gilroy with a score of 107, followed by Megan Donahoe who took just one more stroke at 108. Sophia Sullivan shot 122 and Daley recorded a 136. Laura Fellows and Alexis Driggs rounded out the squad by scoring an identical 142.
Robert Louis Stevenson won the event with a score of 308, 48 points better than runner-up Santa Catalina. The San Benito Lady ‘Balers took fourth with a score of 391.
With no seniors on the team, Kuwada thinks his group has a very bright future,
“All of the girls are underclassman and are ready to start next year,” he said. “We will work on their games on the offseason and try and improve for next year.”
