‘Stop the Little-Girl Secrecy Stuff’ and Get the Schools Built for Our Community

Dear Editor,

I have just read your article about the new high school being in some financial disarray. I have been a resident of Gilroy for more than 30 years. My parents moved our family here from San Jose in 1976. At that time, Gilroy High School was under construction and soon opened in 1977.

I cannot remember any type of the moaning and groaning then that is going on now. This is absolutely ridiculous. I have two children in junior high now who are excited about the school, but at the same time want to attend GHS to experience the legacy the school has. But I am afraid that unless something happens soon with Christopher High and its development to decongests GHS, my kids will be denied the education that this school district is supposed to be providing thus throwing my tax dollars right out the window. That is something no parent should have to live with.

If the city continues to let developers build and they don’t want to pitch in, then maybe they should go build somewhere else. This small town was just fine before they all got here. To the representatives of the Gilroy Unified School District Board of Trustees, the City of Gilroy and local developers, “GET OFF YOUR BUTTS, STOP THE LITTLE-GIRL SECRECY STUFF and LET’S GET THE JOB DONE!”

It just kills me everyday I pass by the piece of land designated for CHS not seeing any dirt being pushed around, feeling like my tax dollars are being wasted. I hope in the interest of the community this gets resolved QUICKLY!

City Fireworks Display Just Keeps Getting Shorter – What’s on Tap for 2008?

Dear Editor,

I just wanted to say kudos to the city of Gilroy for their 11-minute fireworks display at Gilroy High School.

My fiance and I decided to time the fireworks show this year for it seems like every year, the display keeps getting shorter and shorter. We have come to find that this year’s show was four minutes shorter than last year’s, proving that our hypothesis is correct.

If last years show was 15 minutes long and this year’s was only 11 minutes long, how long will the fireworks display be in 2008?

Hope Cerdan, Gilroy
