Morgan Hill – Two men were arrested on suspicion of rape, as Morgan Hill police officers scrambled to deal with a number of calls for service, including fights and a burglary.
Morgan Hill Police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer said Friday night was particularly busy for officers on duty as two rapes, a fight and a burglary were reported.
Ambrose Romero, 44, of Morgan Hill was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of rape after an incident in the parking lot of Ernie’s Bar on Monterey Road. Neumayer said the alleged rape occurred about 11pm, near closing time for the bar. Witnesses told police they saw a woman in the parking lot with her pants and underwear around her knees, with a man standing near her, pulling up his pants.
The woman was “very inebriated,” he said. Romero also had been drinking, Neumayer said.
That same night, the parents of a 15-year-old girl reported she had been having sex with Miguel Presencion, 22, of San Martin, who was already on probation for burglary. Presencion was booked into county jail on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a person younger than 18.
While officers were investigating the rape calls and others responded to a report of fights at Strikes Lounge, a burglary was reported at the Cingular store in Cochrane Plaza shopping center, Neumayer said.
Officers were at Strikes lounge on a report of a fight in the bar when they contacted Anthony Brewer, 35, of Morgan Hill. Neumayer said Brewer refused to leave the bar, and officers had to force him out.
About $1,000 worth of headsets and other items were reportedly stolen from the Cingular store, but officers could not respond at the time because they were on other calls.
“We just didn’t have enough officers to handle everything,” Neumayer said.
