Sidewalk Law Clear in California – Ignorance of the Law is No Excuse
Dear Editor,
Mr. Zappa, ignorance of the law is no excuse!
Anyone who buys a house in California is made aware of the property line of their property. Furthermore, if the sidewalks are raised when you purchase the property then a disclosure statement should be included (if your real estate agent is worth his/her salt).
According to the California Streets and Highways code, “the owners of lots or portions of lots fronting on any portion of a public street or place when that street or place is improved or if and when the area between the property line of the adjacent property and the street line is maintained as a park or parking strip, shall maintain any sidewalk in such condition that the sidewalk will not endanger persons or property and maintain it in a condition which will not interfere with the public convenience in the use of those works or areas save and except as to those conditions created or maintained in, upon, along, or in connection with such sidewalk by any person other than the owner, under and by virtue of any permit or right granted to him by law or by the city authorities in charge thereof, and such persons shall be under a like duty in relation thereto.”
Don’t blame the City Council or mayor, your fight is with the State of California and the legislature you elected. If you don’t like the law then change the law.

‘Liberal Myopic Degenerative Disorder’ and Anger Issues
Dear Editor,
Recently arriving home after a vacation in Europe and checking back issues of The Dispatch, I was amused to read Daniel Garcia’s latest rant (letter 9/8) that in this case was a personal attack on my character.
I can only say that Garcia’s comments are par for his liberal philosophy, i.e. hypocritical – and show that while liberals preach “tolerance” towards all, how soon they forget it when their own feathers get ruffled.
Garcia’s letter proves again that has an advanced case of LMDD
(Liberal Myopic Degenerative Disorder).
As I replied before, I suggest Garcia makes an appointment to visit a good shrink and solve his anger issues.

Appreciates the Words Written in Defense of Islam and Center Plans
Dear Editor,
I was pleased to read Sal Akhter’s letter in response to spiteful column written by Cynthia Walker.
People such as Ms. Walker can only generate hatred and schism in thriving communities. I am glad that Mr. Akhter was able to refute her assertions.
