Gilroy Police Department officers arrested a 16-year-old male after a stabbing on the 200 block of E. 10th Street sent a 17-year-old male to the emergency room at Saint Louise Regional Hospital Wednesday. GPD is withholding the identities of the men, but both are Gilroy residents.

Officers were dispatched to the hospital at approximately 8:16 p.m. after the 17-year-old arrived with a non-life threatening stab wound to his upper body. He was later transported to a Bay Area trauma center for additional treatment.

Questioning of the victim lead officers to the crime scene on E. 10th Street and further investigations lead to officers identifying a suspect. The 16-year-old was arrested approximately a quarter of a mile away from the scene of the attack.

The incident may have been motivated by gang affiliation and has been assigned to the Anti-Crime Team, said GPD Sgt. Pedro Espinoza.
