Christopher and North Salinas each had three wins a piece under their belts, but one had to walk away a winner. All eyes turned to No. 3 singles player Tiffany Roberts to take home a ‘W’ for the Cougars — and she didn’t disappoint.
Â
Roberts won the first set 6-3, but dropped the second 4-6. The Cougars’ No. 3 didn’t let up, taking the tiebreaker match 10-3 to help her team close out the regular season on a high note and  edge North Salinas 4-3 Tuesday on the road.Â
Â
“It was an exciting finish to a good year for the girls tennis team,” CHS coach Patrick McBrearty said. Â
Â
No. 1 singles player Emily Barham was stellar once again, shutting down her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to remain undefeated on the year. Adena Chen, Christopher’s No. 2, also won her match 6-4, 6-2 in singles’ play.Â
The No. 1 doubles team of Jade Bardrick and Renata Vasconcelos picked up the lone doubles victory, winning in a tiebreaker 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.Â
Tuesday’s victory gave Christopher an 8-2 record to end the regular season. Barham, Chen will represent the Cougars in singles play the finals Monday and Tuesday at Salinas High School. The team of Liz Levan and Roberts as well as Kaitlyn Lombardo and Bardrick will represent CHS as the two doubles teams. Times for these contests have not yet been announced.Â
