If a historic building in the city rocks your world, then the Gilroy Historical Society wants to hear about it.
The society is accepting nominations in four categories for its 2013 Architectural Awards.
Anyone can submit a nomination for consideration, said Kathy Hodgdon, committee chair of the Gilroy Historical Society.
Last year, Jenny Knerr nominated the home at 7297 Church St. for being “a pleasure to drive by.” The historical society board agreed, and awarded the homeowners a Certificate of Commendation.
Nominations can be sent to the Gilroy Historical Society by mail, email or phone. Mail nominations to Gilroy Museum, 195 Fifth St., Gilroy, CA, 95020; email to Gi***********@ci.us; or call (408) 846-0446. Be sure to include their name, the street address of the nominee and a brief explanation of why the building or residence deserves an award.
The four categories are:
Historic Design Award – Given to a new building that complements the original historic buildings downtown or enhances the Downtown Historic District area.
Historic Commercial Building Award – Given to a building that is at least 50 years old in the Downtown Historic District or on an Historic Site that restores, retains or preserves the building’s historical, cultural or architectural values.
Historic House Award – Given to a home at least 50 years old that is an outstanding example of restoration and renovation (exterior only).
Certificate of Commendation – Awarded to residential, commercial or “other” for new construction, restoration, renovation, additions, landscaping, painting or significant improvement.
