Gilroy Little League

The 12-year-old Hollister All Stars proved too much for Gilroy Tuesday.
Hollister beat up on Gilroy 9-1 in the sectional loser’s bracket in San Jose. The loss eliminated Gilroy from the tournament, ending its season.
“I wish I had good news; it’s kind of a bummer,” Gilroy coach Marshall Silva said. “I was talking to one of the parents and they said ‘Unless you go all the way to Williamsport (Pa.) and win the championship, everybody’s season is going to end in a loss.’ It’s just unfortunate it was so lopsided.”
Hollister struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Gilroy answered with a run off the bat of Marshall Silva III in the bottom half of the inning, but that was the extent of what the team would do. Hollister’s scoring came off of three homeruns — two of which were two-run homers and the other was a three-run blast.
“I think the better team won,” Silva said. “They came out, they were aggressive on the base path. They were swinging the bats well and their pitcher threw a really good game. We didn’t have any wind in our sails anymore.”
Gilroy started off the tournament on the right foot, beating Santa Clara Westside 8-3 on Sunday. Gilroy was handed its first loss in the postseason Monday when it was no-hit by Santa Cruz in a 2-0 loss. Hollister, on the other hand, dropped its first game of the tournament. The team was also no-hit by Santa Cruz and lost 3-0.
Hollister had to fight back through the loser’s bracket, winning two straight to get to Tuesday’s game.
The win sent the Hollister All Stars to the championship game against Santa Cruz Wednesday.
