House fire on Church Street

Multiple engines from Gilroy, Morgan Hill and San Jose fire companies responded at around 4:55 p.m. to a house fire at 7224 Church St.

Fire personnel said the homeowners were out of town and that no people were inside the house at the time of the fire. Preliminary reports reveal the fire may have started upstairs, where there is heavy damage.

A Gilroy Police officer confirmed there are dogs in the house, but the animals are OK.

Jayden Thuringer, the owner of the property, arrived at the scene as firefighters were in the process of making sure the fire was completely out.

“We were at my son’s karate class,” said a shocked Thuringer.

Friends and neighbors hugged Thuringer’s wife as she stood in the street surveying the damage to her house.

“She’ll be OK,” said one woman. “She has friends to take care of her.”
