No plans for downtown police beat

This week in crime, Gilroy Police took a high baby away from its parents, recovered stolen cars and arrested drunk drivers. Here’s a few incidents:
Baby on cocaine
At 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 31, two 19-month-old babies from Ticonderoga Place (near the general vicinity of Miller Avenue and W. Sixth Street) were placed into protective custody after one tested positive for cocaine.
Scene at Mickey D’s
Jose Vargas, 24, allegedly fled from police after causing a domestic disturbance at McDonald’s on First Street at 11:24 p.m. on Aug. 30. After a five minute struggle with police, he was arrested for domestic disturbance, felony evading and for driving under the influence with a .08 blood alcohol level or higher.
Stolen car, warrants, drugs
Simon Rodriguez and Manuel Cuevas – both 26 years old – were caught sitting in a stolen white Mitsubishi on Forest Street at 11:43 p.m. on Aug. 30. The two men were arrested for vehicle theft, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, possession of an imitation firearm and two outstanding warrants.
Drunk driving hit-and-run
Ivan Ortega, 25, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence, causing an accident and fleeing the scene at 5:16 p.m. on Sept. 1.
