Bethany College hoops camp features pair of GHS standouts

Bethany College in Scotts Valley will host a basketball camp for youngsters from 4th grade to 10th grade from July 25-29.

Bruins head coach Dan Mooney will teach kids the fundamentals of offensive and defensive basketball at the Christian college from 9am-5pm, with the assistance of two former Gilroy High hoops standouts who currently play for Bethany.

Erik Nelson and Gabe Gonzales, members of the GHS varsity squad that won league in 2002, now suit up for the Bruins and encourage Gilroy youngsters with a desire to become better basketball players to sign up for the camp.

Boys and girls are welcome at the camp, which will include some Christian fellowship but is not limited to people with Christian backgrounds.

Breakfast and lunch is provided, and overnight accommodation may be available on a case-by-case basis. The fee for the camp is $200, though a sliding scale may be offered on a case-by-case basis.

For more information, contact coach Dan Mooney at (831) 438-3800, ext. 1649 or (916) 600-6277; or Erik Nelson at (408) 857-9691.
