Three Gilroy residents were arrested for drug-related crimes in Cochrane Plaza earlier today.

About 3:30 p.m., detectives from the Morgan Hill Police street crimes unit noticed a suspicious vehicle parked near the Bank of America in the shopping center. One of the officers recognized the driver of the vehicle as being a parolee from Gilroy, according to Sgt. Shane Palsgrove.

When the three occupants of the vehicle noticed the patrol car they exited the car and attempted to flee in different directions on foot, Palsgrove said.

However, the officers were able to contact all three people, and determined the driver, Gilroy resident Julian Orozco, 40, was on parole and had a felony warrant for his arrest. When he was searched, officers found a set of scales that are commonly used to weigh drugs, Palsgrove said. Orozco was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and the outstanding warrant.

Also arrested was Julio Valdez, 42, of Gilroy, was arrested for felony possession of drugs for sale after officers found pills, methamphetamine and packaging paraphernalia on him. Valdez had a $6,000 warrant out for his arrest for a previous misdemeanor, Palsgrove said.

A third suspect, Brittney Alexander, 19, of Gilroy, was in the car with the two men and was also arrested. She was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled sbstance, according to Palsgrove.

Following the three arrests, the detectives searched the hotel room in Gilroy where they were staying, and found additional drug paraphernalia. Palsgrove did not immediately know what hotel they were staying at.
