city outreach effort to keep people informed of the major road
widening project.
Gilroy – City road inspector Steve Beams spent Tuesday afternoon dropping in on residents near Santa Teresa Boulevard, as part of a city outreach effort to keep people informed of the major road widening project.
City workers have begun installing soundwalls along the eastern portion of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Beams wants to make sure residents along Gaunt Avenue, which runs parallel to Santa Teresa, have all their questions answered.
To help in that effort, Beams has put together a flyer with pictures of construction, timetables, and contact numbers. He plans to stop by roughly 25 homes to drop it off and answer questions in person. This is the third round of Santa Teresa updates Beams has distributed.
“It’s a good tool to get the word out and break the barrier to get the people talking,” Beams said. “It’s an excellent proactive tool.”
Homeowners and residents have said the flyer is an excellent way to answer the myriad questions of kids, who marvel about “the big tractors” and loud noises, according to Beams.
He previously distributed flyers and went door to door during major street and sidewalk repairs along Monterey Street.
Workers along Santa Teresa are now laying the foundation for and constructing soundwalls, according to Beams’ flyer. The installation of the soundwalls will take place from May 19 to 20. Beams encourages residents to keep animals inside and supervise children during installation. The Santa Teresa project, which is widening the city’s western artery from two to four lanes, is expected to be complete by fall.
