Dear Editor,

Teachers who participated in the Day of Silence were as unprofessional as unprofessional gets, so it is no surprise that GHS teacher Wayne Scott (May 4 and 10) would write in support thereof. Hopefully the school board, which is supposed to put a cap on such activities, will act dutifully for once and prohibit teachers from so promoting the gay agenda, or any political agenda, in the future.

Yes, the silence was part of a political agenda. Don’t try to deny it, Mr. Scott. Kids get picked on for having bucked teeth, for looking like Howdy Doody, for being fat, for having bug eyes and Coke-bottle glasses and for several other problems.

I remember the indoctrination at Las Animas School during my internment there in the 1970s. They forced us all – without parent consent – to watch a film about the evils of racial “prejudice.” I have never had anything against blacks (the supposedly oppressed group in the film – oh, boo hoo) and do not disagree with what said film promoted. But it didn’t belong in the classroom. It’s blatant INDOCTRINATION and, just like teachers participating in the Day of Silence, has no place in public schools!

I also remember during my time at Gilroy High school one teacher ranting on and on (bully pulpit) about how handguns should be banned. She was frustrated at the resounding defeat of Proposition 15, 1982, which she clearly supported.

But such is the leftist infection in our schools. The teachers who participated and those like Mr. Scott who defend it, are the primary cause of disrespect toward public education. I hope all voters will remember this the next time the district comes begging for a tax hike (and we know they will, since all they do is beg for money). I will certainly remind them, just to be sure.
