Following a year of preparation, the Boy Scout Councils of the Monterey Bay Area and Santa Clara County decided to merge the two groups.
Leaders of each organization said the merger is in the best interest of Monterey and Santa Clara County scouts, according to a press release from the council. Their focus is to effectively use resources to support the Boy Scout units.
Both councils voted unanimously Dec. 10 to approve the merger.
The Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties have now become one overarching body and look forward to the upcoming year.
The new group will be effective Dec. 31 and will be known as the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council.
Dick Noack, a resident of San Jose, will serve as the Council president for the group; while Tim Morgan, the former Monterey Bay Area Council president, will remain a key adviser on the Council Board of Directors.
The group plans to operate in the same way as both councils did independently and is looking forward to a new year in scouting.
“Now is the time for each of us to roll up our sleeves and accomplish the meaningful work we all love,” the press release states.
