UPDATE: Homicide suspect arrested by GPD
Gilroy police arrested a man suspected in a homicide in San Jose shortly after a Gilroy Dispatch reader spotted Juan Osorio Martinez on the 200 block of IOOF Avenue Thursday afternoon, according to a press release.
GPD later stopped a car occupied by Osorio Martinez, 56, on the 200 block of First Street and he was arrested without incident.
San Jose police have an active warrant out for Osorio Martinez arrest in connection with a homicide investigation. SJPD thought that Osorio Martinez had fled the country in 2011.
According to SJPD, Osorio Martinez is wanted in a domestic violence-related murder of Irma Campos, 52, who was found dead Aug. 26, 2011.
GPD previously released a statement that Osorio Martinez was seen riding a bicycle south on Church Street on Oct. 24.
It’s believed Osorio Martinez was attempting to establish himself as a member of the Gilroy community, according to police; and is a known transient who was making his living by selling fruit as a street vendor.
“The police department wishes to thank the continued support of the community. This partnership between the community; local media, and the police department, led to the quick apprehension of this murder suspect,” said the press release.
This week, police arrested several people for narcotics related crimes, petty theft, and are on the lookout for a San Jose homicide suspect. Here are a few events worth noting:
METH ARREST
Monica Lujan, 35 of Gilroy, was pulled over for a traffic stop on Princevalle Street and Tenth Street at 3:14 p.m. on Oct. 24. and was found to have a felony warrant from San Benito County. Police also allegedly found .5 gram of methamphetamine in her possession. She was arrested for the narcotics and taken to Santa Clara County Jail without incident.
ANOTHER METH ARREST
Another traffic stop turned into a drug bust when 40-year-old Gilroy resident Noe Garcia was pulled over on Wren Avenue at 11:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and allegedly caught with three grams of meth. She was taken to Santa Clara County Jail for possession of narcotics.
TEEN HIT AND RUN
At 7:48 a.m. on Oct. 23, a 16-year-old male Christopher High School student crashed white Chevy truck into a white Chrysler on Day Road at Santa Teresa Boulevard and drove off. Police caught him just down the road and he was cited for a hit and run. There were no injuries and minor damage to both vehicles.
