Brendan Holler caught a pair of first half touchdown passes as the Gilroy High football team squeezed by host Everett Alvarez 21-7 on Thursday night in Salinas.

Despite the victory – the Mustangs (2-5 overall, 1-2 league) first in Monterey Bay League Pacific Division play – head coach Brian Boyd said his team has plenty of improving yet to do with three big games against San Benito, Palma and Christopher remaining in the season.

“We wanted to change some things, and we did, we got a win,” Boyd said. “Even though we won I’m not that excited. We played down to their level. We have a lot of work to do still to get to the playoffs.”

It was 7-7 for much of the first half before GHS scored to make it 14-7 into halftime. Ricky Alvarado ran in the Mustangs final touchdown from 2-yards out late in the fourth quarter.
