Working through its most trying stretch of the season, Gavilan baseball halted its three-game Coast Conference losing skid with a 3-2 victory over Cabrillo on Thursday in Gilroy.
Playing their third game in four days, the Rams avenged the 8-6 loss to the Seahawks on Monday. Up until Monday’s setback, the Rams hadn’t lost back -to-back games in 2012.
Gavilan had the right man on the hill to stop said skid, Chris Bradley. The left-hander, who upped his record to 6-0, tossed a complete game six hitter.
A three-run bottom of the first ended up being plenty of run support for Bradley. Tim Andrade double to leadoff the frame, and two batters later Julio Cortez doubled in Andrade and Brian Bradley, who had walked. Tyler Oertle singled in Cortez for the 3-0 lead.
Cabrillo tallied once in the sixth and once in the eighth but no more.
Despite dropping out of the Northern California Coaches’ Poll top-20, the Rams (14-11, 7-6 conference) still sit in fourth place in the Coast Conference Pacific Division. Cabrillo (13-9, 7-3 conference), which is ranked No. 14, is in second place.
