Dear Editor,
This is my response to the GHS teachers whose letter appeared in the May 4 Gilroy Dispatch.
In regards to your third paragraph, you are so very wrong saying that if the Day of Silence was not for gay and lesbian students but on another topic, the community would not be outraged.
A day of silence on any topic does not teach or bring any understanding to the world. Communication is important, silence is useless.
Because of the Day of Silence you were not there to teach properly and that is your job. You are not paid to bring your home life or your political or your religious beliefs to the classroom. Teach the subject!
The outrage in the community should be proof that a day of silence does not teach tolerance.
