Three second-half goals not only took care of Monterey, but also solidified the Christopher High field hockey team’s first Mission Trail Athletic League championship Friday afternoon.
“It’s a job well done by some really focused girls,” said a very pleased CHS head coach Lia Peterson.
The Cougars finished the league slate 13-0-2, including a victory and tie over North Salinas – the team CHS unseated as champions.
“They figured out how to play as a team,” Peterson said. “There were times when they had some trouble, but they worked that out. When push came to shove, they came together and pulled it off.”
After a scoreless first half, the flood gates opened and Kristen Flores, Emma Morley and Jordan Evanger (from Maddie Peterson), poured in the goals for the Cougars.
CHS will make its Central Coast Section postseason debut Nov. 8 as the home team against an opponent yet to be determined at a time yet to be assigned.
Official seeding is Saturday.
