It’s open recruitment season for positions on Gilroy’s volunteer commissions and committees. Here are the slots that are open:
Arts and cultures commission, two seats.Â
This seven-member commission is responsible for advising City Council on cultural and artistic activities in Gilroy, and to promote the arts in the community. Â The commission meets on the second Tuesday of each month.Â
Bicycle and pedestiran commission, two seats.Â
This five-member panel advises City staff and Council to advocate for bicycle and pedestrian rights in the community. Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of each month.Â
Building board of appears, two seats
 This five-member board addresses matters pertaining to building and construction. They meet as needed.Â
Historic heritage committee, one seat
 This five-member committee meets the third Wednesday of each month and acts as an advisory board for Council on issues relating to the identification and preservation of historic sites in the city.Â
Housing advisory committee, three seats
 This nine-member body makes recommendations to Council on housing related matters. The group meets quarterly.
Library commission, two seats
This five-member commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month to serve as a liaison to Council and staff on matters concerning the Gilroy Library.Â
Open government commission, three seats
 This five-member commission is newly opened to public members who will be tasked with ensuring that Gilroy residents have access to information and government transparency by advising Council and staff ways to implement the Open Government Ordinance. Meetings are held quarterly.
Parks and recreation commission, one seat
 This commission is responsible for advising various City departments and Council on matters pertaining to public parks, and recreation. The seven-member body meets the third Tuesday of each month.Â
Personnel commission, one seat
This commission serves and a neutral body to hear appeals about City employee disciplinary  matters as well as reviews job descriptions and conducts reviews of the City’s human resources rules and regulations. The five-member body meets the second Monday of each month.Â
Physically challenged board of appeals, one seat
This five-member body deals with items of interest to the physically challeged. They meet quarterly.
Planning commission, one seat
This seven-member body advises Council in the review and approval of land use applications and development. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month.Â
Public art committee, two seats
This seven-member committee works in tandem with the arts and cultures commission and meet the fourth Wednesday of each month.Â
The application deadline for these positions is Tuesday, Dec. 4. Applications can be found at www.cityofgilroy.org and at City Hall, 7351 Rosanna St. Interviews will be held 6 p.m. on Dec. 10, and positions start the beginning of 2013.Â
