Gilroy's Carlos Jimenez works to get control of a pass as Christopher's Josue Salgado looks to steal during their game Thursday at Gilroy High School.

Emmanuel Cruz had two goals and one assist, and Andres Jimenez tallied one goal and one assist to lead Gilroy High’s boys soccer team to a 5-0 rout of visiting Christopher on Thursday at Garcia-Elder Sports Complex.

Alejandro Flores and Mark Rubalcava added one goal each for the Mustangs, who used four goals in the second half to break the match open.

“Our possession was really good,” Andres Jimenez said. “We were going too quickly in the first half, and (coaches) told us to slow it down a bit, and we did.”

Carlos Jimenez and Gaspar Figueroa added one assist each for Gilroy.

Mustangs goalkeepers Carlos Jimenez and Angel Velasquez combined on the shutout.

“I think I’m more impressed with the shutouts than the goals,” Gilroy coach Armando Padilla said. “In the second half, the kids got adjusted to the pace, and we went on a scoring spree.”
