Gilroy Police responded to more tricks than treats this Halloween week, including a few burglaries and vandalism. Here are a few events:
VACANT HOME STRIPPED FOR COPPER
An unknown suspect entered a vacant home by tearing down plywood from the boarded-up windows on the 400 block of Hadley Court at 3 p.m. on Oct. 25. The suspect cut $2,500 worth of copper wiring from the walls.
MAN ASKS TO BE ARRESTED
James Collins wanted to get arrested. The 62-year-old Hollister transient threw a rock into a church window on First Street at 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 30. He reported himself to police and told them he wanted to go to jail. Police gave him his wish and took him to Santa Clara County Jail.
SLASHING TIRES WHILE STROLLING
Juan Garcia, 28 of Gilroy, was allegedly caught slashing tires while walking down Sherwood Drive near Carmel Street at 5 p.m. on Oct. 31. In total he slashed three tires on three different cars, causing about $900 worth of damage. He was caught by one victim, who followed him and called police.
TRICK-OR-TREATERS TRICKED WITH AUTO BURGLARIES
Three similar reports came in on Halloween night, that a suspect in the neighborhood near Luigi Aprea Elementary broke into three different cars while the victims were trick-or-treating in the neighborhood. In each report, the suspect had broken the car’s window and grabbed the victim’s purse around 8 p.m. on Oct. 31.
MAN WITH FELONY WARRANT HIDES FROM POLICE
At 3:07 a.m. on Nov. 1, Roman Rodriguez, 23, was arrested for resisting arrest and for possession of drug paraphernalia at 3:07 a.m. Nov. 1. Police saw him riding his bike and knew he had a warrant for his arrest. They tried to stop him but he abandoned his bike and took off on foot. Police found him hiding under a fifth wheel in a backyard on the 7800 block of Eigleberry. Rodriguez was arrested for resisting arrest, a $25,000 felony warrant, and for having a meth pipe in his possession. He was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
