The San Francisco Giants have announced that first baseman Aubrey Huff is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment with the San Jose Giants on Wednesday at Municipal Stadium. The San Jose Giants begin a six-game homestand against the Modesto Nuts and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes with first pitch on Wednesday set for 6:30 p.m. Huff, 35, is recovering from a sprained right knee injury sustained in mid-June.
• Robert Guerrero’s publicist Mario Serrano will be in Gilroy to sell tickets to The Ghost’s July 28 world title bout against Selcuk Aydin in San Jose. Visit Serrano at Station 55 on Friday night between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. to purchase tickets. Prices start at $26 and go up to $252.
• Gilroy resident Ryan Slater, 14, won The Junior Tour of Northern California’s second tournament of its Summer Series at San Juan Oaks GC in Hollister on Thursday.
In the boys First Flight category (players with a 5.5 and above handicap), Slater opened the two-day tournament with a 5-under-par 67 round that included six birdies to just one bogey. After a 4-over 76 on Thursday – 143 two-day total – Slater hung on for a one-stroke victory over Jensen Li of Sunnyvale. Li’s round Thursday was aided by a hole-in-one on the par-3 12th, which was playing 146 yards. Rashad Jaymes of Foster City, finished alone in third.
The Junior Tour, which is open to boys and girls 18-years-old and younger, will continue its Summer Series schedule with a visit to El Macero Country Club on July 9-10.
