Gilroy Garlic Festival-goers have one more thing to be happy about besides Pepper Steak Sandwiches, garlic-scented bubbles or a 250-foot-long zip line: Afternoon temperatures this weekend should be about 10 degrees cooler than seasonal averages, according to forecaster Bob Benjamin with the National Weather Service in Monterey.
“The high temperatures should probably be in the lower to mid-80s, which is nice,” he said. “Typically it’s in the mid- to upper-90s.”
During the 34th annual Garlic Festival this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the weather will be “mild” with low temperatures hitting the mid to upper-50s by mid morning, then warming up to the lower or mid-80s in the afternoon.
Things will start heating up again Monday, Benjamin said.
As for this weekend, “it’s gonna be warm, obviously,” but not as hot as the sweltering 90-degree weather typically associated with the garlicky extravaganza, according to Benjamin.
The 2012 34th annual Gilroy Garlic Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, July 27 through Sunday, July 29 at Christmas Hill Park, located in the center of town where Miller Avenue meets Uvas Creek. Gates close at 6 p.m.
