The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting Aug. 1 at 4 p.m. in board chambers in San Jose to take action on a measure that would raise the county’s sales tax rate by one-eighth cent.
At the meeting they’re expected to make the final decision on the measure that would go before voters on Nov. 6.
The first reading of the resolution was done in June, when District 1 Supervisor Mike Wasserman cast the lone opposing vote against the measure. The measure requires four out of five votes to move to the ballot.
Officially coined as the “County of Santa Clara Retail Transactions and Use Tax Ordinance,” the county’s hoped-for sales tax could join several other proposed tax measures on the November ballot.
This includes a sales tax being explored by Saint Louise Regional Hospital to help fund a multi-million dollar emergency room and a sales tax measure currently being considered by the City of San Jose.
The public meeting starts at 4 p.m. Wednesday in board chambers, 70 W. Hedding Street, First Floor, San Jose. The meeting was called for on July 31.
